Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make an appointment or sign up ahead of time?
All classes on our schedule are on-going; there's no need to pre-register or call ahead.

How early do I need to be at the studio before class begins?
Please arrive to class on time (5-10 min. early) so you will have enough time to check in and get settled.  If you'd like a head start, PRINT the New Student form and bring it in with you!  If you need directions, click HERE.

What if I am running late?
If you are late, wait outside the door during the chanting and opening remarks, then quietly enter the room; the instructor will help you find a spot to place your mat.  As a reminder, classes close 15 minutes after the beginning of class as a courtesy to those in the room.

Where can I leave my belongings?
We have shelving outside the studios for you to leave your belongings.  We recommend not leaving belongings inside your car for safety purposes.  Charlotte Yoga is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

What's the difference between Hot 26™ and Power Yoga?
Hot 26™ classes are practiced in a room which is heated to at least 99 degrees.  There are space heaters in the room for additional heat.  Postures are taken at a slower pace than the Power classes and held for thirty seconds to one minute.  Compared to Power classes there is very little vinyasa flow in Hot 26™ classes.  Please see our Class Description page for the benefits of a Hot 26™ class.

In Power classes, the room is not heated (temperature is usually around 80-85 degrees) and vinyasa flow practice is used to heat the body and warm the muscles.  In general, Power classes are faster paced than Hot 26™.  As a courtesy to all clients, space heaters are not used in Power Yoga classes.

I'm brand new to yoga; what class is best for me?
As a new student we recommend that you try our Power Yoga I class or Hot 26™ as a place to start.  See our Class Description page for details.

What should I wear?
Wear non restricting comfortable clothes--no shoes/socks or baggy clothing; most wear tank tops, yoga pants, shorts, t-shirts, leotards, gym clothes etc.  If you needs something to wear, we offer a wide selection of RETAIL from which to choose.

Should I eat before I come to class?
Come in on an empty stomach, i.e. a light meal 2 hours before class, a heavy meal 3-4 hours before class.

Do I need to bring anything with me?
You'll need a towel (a large one to put on top of your mat and maybe a hand towel for your face), a yoga mat and a bottle of water.  We rent towels ($1) and mats ($3) for your convenience, and have bottled water for purchase (1.5L $2, 20oz., $1).

I have a pre-existing injury/illness/condition.  Is yoga right for me?
Always check with your physician to see if strenuous exercise is okay for your body.  And please, let your instructor know of any injury or illness before class starts so they can offer you the best class possible for your needs.

During the menstrual cycle, inversions should be avoided--speak to your teacher for other options.  Also, yoga can be very beneficial to pregnant yoginis, but always consult your doctor.

What if I need to leave class early?
Do your best to stay for the whole class!  If you have to leave early, inform your teacher before class and don’t leave with out taking savasana (final resting pose).  And please, if you are leaving, try to exit the room before remaining students settle into savasana.

If you need a place to get ready after class, we have showers for your convenience. Please keep in mind, Charlotte Yoga Closes 15 minutes after the last class ends.

What if I accidentally leave something at the studio?
If your leave anything at the studio (shoes, clothes, mats, towels or YogitoesTM, etc.), you have ONE WEEK to pick them up.  All items left beyond 7 days are donated to Goodwill!  If there is a name on the item, and we have a phone number for you, we will gladly call.

A good tip is to write your name on your mat and towel.  Many look the same and can be picked up by mistake!

How often should I come to yoga?
We recommend coming to a yoga class at least three times a week.

Is there anything else I need to know?
-Do not wear heavy cologne/perfume--others may be allergic!

-Be aware of your neighbors, during the practice you may need to shift in order to give them and yourself enough space.

-Drink lots of water BEFORE and AFTER class, especially Hot 26TM!

-Please do not bring cell phones or beepers into the studio.

-Don't compare your practice to that of other students--everyone is different!
