New Student Information

I'm brand new to yoga. What classes are best for me?

As a new student, you are welcome to attend any class on our schedule!

If you are looking for a recommendation, we suggest the following classes:

Days:
Monday, Vinyasa Flow, 10:45a-12:00p
Saturday, Power Yoga 101 12:30p-1:30p
Sunday, Power 1, 12:30p-1:30p

Evenings:
Monday, Power 1, 5:30p-6:30p
Tuesday, Hot 26TM, 5:30p-6:55p
Wednesday, 1 Hour Hot 26TM, 8:15p-9:15p

Power 1 is recommended because it presents the basics of Power Yoga. The 1 Hour Hot 26TM because the pacing is slower than Power classes and you'll have more time in each pose. These classes are challenging for all levels, but offer modifications for those just beginning their yoga practice.

Do I need to make an appointment or sign up ahead of time?

All classes are on-going. There's no need to pre-register or call ahead.

How early do I need to be at the studio before class begins?

It's important to be a little early for your first class! Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts so you'll have time to sign up and get your spot in the room. If you are late, wait outside the door during the chanting and opening remarks, then quietly enter the room. The instructor will help you find a spot to place your mat. As a reminder, classes close 15 minutes after the beginning of class as a courtesy to those in the room.

Where can I leave my belongings?

We have shelving outside the studio for your things. Please no shoes and no cell phones in class.

What's the difference between Hot 26TM and Power Yoga?

Hot 26TM classes are practiced in a room which is heated to at least 101 degrees. Postures are taken at a slower pace than the Power classes and held for thirty seconds to one minute. Compared to Power classes, there is very little vinyasa flow in Hot 26TM classes.

In Power classes, the room is not heated (temperature is usually around 80-85 degrees) and vinyasa flow practice is used to heat the body and warm the muscles. In general, Power classes are faster paced than Hot 26TM.

What should I wear?

Most clients choose to wear fitted, breathable clothing. You'll be moving around a lot in different positions and you'll be sweating, so wear what is most comfortable for you.

Should I eat before class?

This is personal preference. However, it is recommended that a heavy meal not be eaten prior to your class. Drink plenty of water before and after a practice.

What do I need to bring?

You will need:

-yoga mat,
-large/bath towel for your mat
-face/hand towel
-water bottle

Charlotte Yoga has rental yoga mats and there is a filtered water fountain that you may use, so bring your own bottle. On your first vist, the mat is free, after that, then it is $3 to rent a yoga mat. We also have mats for sale in the studio.

I have a pre-existing injury/illness/condition. Is Power Yoga or Hot Yoga right for me?

Always check with your physician to see if strenuous exercise is okay for your body.
